5 Ways to Start Earning From Your Blog

Blogging for profit is not always the first thing on your mind when you set out to start a blog but it is always nice to know the options that are available to you. Making some extra income from your blogging efforts will certainly reward you for the time and effort you put into maintaining your blog and here are my favourite ways I monetize my blogs.

1. Become an affiliate and add banners to your blog.

One of the easiest ways to start earning from your blog is to join an affiliate program and add some banners to your blog. The best converting banners will be those that closely match your blogs topic. You should only place a few banners in optimal places on your blog, don't overdo it as this will turn your readers off. You can find affiliate programs in your niche by typing 'niche name' + 'affiliate program' in a search engine; this will look like this for the dog behaviour niche - 'dog behaviour affiliate program'.

2. Let your readers know you having advertising slots available.

This is a great way of letting your community of readers know that you allow for personal advertising requests. The best way to do this is to add an 'Advertising' section on your contact page or subpage. Give as much information as possible and sell your space; example: Advertising on our homepage for 30 days for the one-time low price of $47. You can also offer 3 months advertising for the price of 2 to get you started.

3. Add Google Adsense.

This is a popular method of adding a revenue stream to a blog. 4. Review products and websites.

This is one of the best ways to earn from your blog and can be a natural progression for anyone who has a long established blog. Review a product or website that interests you and your readers (and also fits in with your blogs topics), and add your affiliate link for your readers to click-through if they wish to read more or make a purchase. Honest reviews will convert best, you cannot love every product your review!

5. Monetize your RSS feed.

This tip is one of the best revenue earners for most bloggers. Add ads to your RSS feed. You can do this easily using Feedburner which is owned by Google. Let Feedburner manage your RSS feeds and then merge your Feedburner account with your Adsense account. You'll be surprised at the click-throughs you get from this method.

While some people do blog for fun, most of us are hoping to combine our interests with some regular income. There are several ways to make sure that your blog gets the traffic you want, so that your content gets read and you make some money.

* Have content worth reading and returning to. There are lots of ways to maximize your readership, but the bottom line is that people return to blogs that they enjoy reading. Make sure you update regularly, and give your readers something interesting or useful to read.

* Choose a platform that is easy to use. If you can't figure out how to post content, images, and links, you won't do it. Or your content will be subpar. WordPress is a popular choice because it's easy to use, but free blog sites also offer platforms that are fairly easy to navigate.

* Pick a fight. Or, at least, say something that is likely to get comments. The more confrontational you are, the more reactions you're going to get. You might make people angry, but those people will email their friends and say, "Can you believe what this idiot said? Here's the article: yourlink.com" It doesn't matter if they love you; you want traffic, not a fan club. Your fan club will, presumably, have its own site.

* Go to other blogs. Make comments there...witty, insightful, confrontational comments. Either impress or aggravate people into clicking your link in the comments and going to your site. You'll make a name for yourself in your area of interest.

Blogging can be fun, but it can also be profitable if you follow some of the steps above.

Get Keywords with Free Keyword Tool

What are keywords? Let's define.

Wikipedia definition of the keyword is an index term, subject term, subject or descriptor in the search for information is a term that captures the essence of the subject of a document.

Where did I get to these niches? A keyword of free tools that I use the Google keyword external. (You can find it on the list.) Show that these suggestions are not a large number of people searching for these terms.

If you intend to spend hours and hours of promoting your blog, it is better to do a good job of searching for niches. The use of many free tools for the list to help you absorb, reflect, discuss and debate around it, because it is an important issue.

I have seen many times that people spend three to six months in the same sector rather than progress. Finally, you realize that you can not compete with a long-established site where a broader niche.

Do not waste your time and promotion, you have established a small but important area in which to concentrate their efforts.

I encourage you to use these tools and spend about two weeks, more or less research. This is probably as important as finding a soul mate. It may take a lot of research, but you will have the tools needed to ... that research easier to find your spouse.

After all, if you do not have a strong desire to communicate in a particular niche function. If you like your niche does not work.

Big Mistake when Making Blog Firstly

In the past several years, I have been a part of a large number of successful blogs, and have advised hundreds of new bloggers on how best to start and run professional blogs. There is one relatively consistent theme that I see with most bloggers that has the potential to seriously derail their future blog earnings.

That theme is focus, and it plays out with two related mistakes.

The Blog Topic is Too General

Many new bloggers have a topic in mind when they begin their blogs, but the topic is too broad. For example, health and well-being is a very broad topic. Colon health would be an example of a good alternative.

They Spread Their Branches too Far

Inevitably, new bloggers hit a wall with ideas for blog posts. Or sometimes they get wrapped up in the excitement of blogging, and start posting about unrelated ideas or topics. While it seems relatively innocuous, it has long-lasting damaging effects.

Why is this Lack of Focus a Mistake?

First, to attract loyal readers, you must provide them with depth of coverage, not breadth. They have likely found you because they had a specific information need that you filled. You must stay specific to keep them.

Second, if you ever want to monetize your blog, you will need your blog to be as tightly focused on one topic as possible. This focus will improve the rate of clicks you get on contextual advertising, will increase your contextual advertising payouts, and will enable you to target better performing affiliate offers.
